So much depends upon,
the little blue ice box
with a heart full of forgiveness
for those who have abandoned him
next to the cold breakfast of
half eaten plums on the patio.

The icebox probably thought they
meant to take him back to the house,
but they did mean to leave him behind.

His days of carrying sweets were over,
the heat was going to ruin him
and with his final breath he whispered,
"I forgive you for forgetting me."
